We’re Mad in Germany, the channel that regularly dissects Germany’s psychodrama, debunks fake news and offers top-notch analysis into Europe’s MADdest country since 2024. We’re here to pull Germany’s sociopolitical skeletons out of the closet (looking at you, far-right extremism and media censorship). Our weapon of choice? English-language video interviews with a prominent guest from academia, activism or journalism in Germany who is an expert, a protagonist, or both.

  • James Jackson

    HOST

    James Jackson is a freelance reporter and broadcaster based in Berlin and covering news, business and culture in Germany and Central Eastern Europe for publications like the BBC, Sunday Times, Time Magazine and others.

    A former trainee at Deutsche Welle, he produced an award-winning documentary about the trans history of Berlin and is a Poland fellow of the International Journalist Programme. 

  • Lya Cuéllar

    PRODUCER

    Lya Cuéllar is a Salvadoran journalist and political scientist. She has published pieces at media outlets in both El Salvador and Germany. In 2018, she co-founded the feminist digital media outlet Alharaca, where she works on special investigative projects and as an opinion editor. She also works with German NGOs in Central America. Her work focuses on democracy and gender inequality.

  • Kern Mangan-Walker

    PRODUCTION INTERN

    Kern Mangan-Walker is a non-binary person from Aotearoa New Zealand, now based in Berlin while working on an MSc. Geography of Global Inequalities at Freie Universität Berlin.

    From supporting climate movements, circular entreprenuership, co-founding startups through to leading philanthropy programs for NGOs, Kern has a diverse background centered about creating net+ impact on the world around them.
